Just my thoughts

Indiana Statesman, Indiana State University, IN

We are given a unique opportunity while living in America to experience a wide variety of attitudes, cultures and events.

On a daily basis I try to surround myself with joyful and extroverted people because they accentuate the positive.

However, sometimes understanding the adverse or negative side of things helps with development.

A STEP TO THE LEFT

Identity crises are not so easily overcome as we would like to believe.

Racism may have taken a severe hit with the election of Barack Obama as our 44th president; however, the future of civil rights remains rather ominous as several bills were passed, limiting, or I should say denying the rights of gay citizens.

Column: Don't mess with us, we own you

The Daily Eastern News, Eastern Illinois University, IL

Because I work in the service industry, I have to have a lot of patience with people. People make dumb requests, and they get angry over things they shouldn't get angry about. For instance, I once received a request from a customer for more towels in her room.

Campus should let the Chief rest in peace

The Daily Illini, University of Illinois, IL

It should come as no surprise that this board does not support "The Next Dance" being held this Saturday. The relevant dust settled on the pro-Chief, anti-Chief debate when the Board of Trustees voted to retire Illiniwek in Feb. 2007.

While we believe the Board's prime motivation was postseason money, the impetus was the political and cultural controversy the Chief attracted to the University and the NCAA.

Column: America is a socialist country

The Daily Eastern News, Eastern Illinois University, IL

Now that a Democratic Congress has expanded in power and a Democratic president is about to be sworn into office, I think it is finally time for conservative pundits and columnists to drop the pretense and admit that they are living in a socialist country.

Chancellor should curtail Chief event

The Daily Illini, University of Illinois, IL

4 days ago by Chelsea Fiddyment

I don't need to explain "The Next Dance" to anybody- or the fact that quite a few people have an opinion about it. That number includes Chancellor Herman, who released a statement in Monday's DI, and Robert Warrior, the director of the American Indian Studies Program and the Native American House.

Palin's plotting

The Daily Illini, University of Illinois, IL

5 days ago by Chelsea Fiddyment

A few hotly-contested races have yet to be resolved following Election Day, including, perhaps surprisingly, Alaska's Senate showdown between Ted Stevens and Mark Begich. This may not sound like a big deal to some, but if you were waiting with baited breath for Sarah Palin to crawl back under the rock of obscurity from whence she came, listen up.

Letter to the Editor

Last Saturday, our football team lost its tenth game of the season.

While the players made a valiant effort, tied the game at the half, and tied their season high of 21 points, they were defeated by Youngstown State, a team that before Saturday had a six-game losing streak.

Letter to the Editor: Tires slashed at BSU rally

The Daily Eastern News, Eastern Illinois University, IL

I have a few sentiments to express to the vindictive bastard(s) who slashed my front passenger tire, and the front passenger tires of several other students during the Black Student Union rally and Step Show on Nov. 1. First of all, what the hell do you think you accomplished? What were you trying to prove? Tires are not cheap, and if I had not had Road Hazard insurance provided by Wal-Mart, I would have had to pay $70 of my own money, which I do not have, to replace the tire.
