Iowa City police said Thursday they are almost certain former UI music Professor Mark Weiger killed himself while sitting in his car inside his closed garage.
Johnson County medical examiner performed the autopsy on Weiger Thursday afternoon.
By the time officers found him inside his car in his garage Wednesday afternoon, it was obvious he had been dead "awhile," Iowa City police Sgt. Troy Kelsay said.
By that point, he was beyond resuscitation, Kelsay said.

A former UI graduate student filed a federal lawsuit late last week against a UI professor, claiming he repeatedly sexually harassed her in 2006 and 2007.
She contends that while she took classes and worked as a teaching assistant, Mark Weiger, an oboe professor in the UI School of Music, made inappropriate and derogatory sexual comments to her on a daily basis.
After a university investigation, Weiger allegedly admitted to participating in the conversations and activities, also saying he inappropriately touched another student in front of a class, Iowa City attorney Alison Werner Smith wrote in the suit.
